PCI install all types of suspended ceiling, from standard mineral fibre lay-in-grid through to unique project designs using fibrous plaster, metal form panelling etc.
Here are just a selection of previous completed projects:
Heathrow Visitor Centre
As you can see the building’s roof is curved. This is to imitate the underside of an aircraft. Our remit was to install a suspended ceiling under this roof which also imitated the bottom of an aircraft. The Architect had specified a burgess metal-pan ceiling tile 1800mm x 300mm. Normally the support punchings are at the 300mm ends of the planked tile. To facilitate creation of the curved effect we had the punchings along the long edge of the tile, creating a facted face of 300mm with an overall effect of a curved ceiling.
Holt Castle
The Staircase Ceiling at Holt Castle had been badly affected by a water leak. We dried out the ceiling slowly with fans and dehumidifiers, taking care as Holt Castle is a Grade 1 Listed property. The chandelier was fitted with an electrical pulley to enable future easy cleaning of the crystals and the changing of lamps. After ensuring the original plaster was in good condition we redecorated with goldleaf and picked out the fruit detailing with vibrant colours.
Gatwick Airport – Pier 4
We have worked at many airports – Gatwick, Heathrow, Manchester, Birmingham.
At Gatwick Airport we installed the ceilings to all the departure lounge areas – the ceilings were so long we had to help design expansion joints along their length, together with a similar detail on the abutment to the curtain-walling. Where passengers depart to their aeroplane from departures we also installed bespoke curved metal panelling inside the curved walway node’s connecting to the planes. Contract value exceeded £1.2 million.
Don Valley Sports Stadium
We installed linear metal strip ceilings both internally to the main thoroughfare and also externally beneath the entrance into the arena itself. Inside we fitted mineral-fibre ceiling tiles above the sports track, all the chaging rooms and corridors. At the same time we were commissioned to fit-out the press-boxes and hospitality-boxes. We also carried out the fire-protective works to structural steels where required.
Kenyon Forge, The Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham
Four levels of external walkway of a high quality lettable apartments. By recommendation we were requested to visit site to review the current external walkway ceilings which hadn’t faired well in the weather, resulting in rusting and damp areas – not in keeping with the quality of Clientel using these apartments. Once all the existing ceiling system had been removed, inspection could take place in the the void to ensure compliance with modern day fire requirements. We then installed aluminium perforated panels, further supported by an aluminium support system. All fixings were stainless steel powder coated to match the chosen grey panelling colour. At the outer point of the walkway we also installed a non-perforated panel vertically up to the underside of the ceramic tiled flooring.
The Falkland Islands
This contract was complex in so much that we had to calculate everything that was required, materials and labour, to be dispatched from the UK by container. As the container took many weeks to travel by sea, it was critical for such a small sized contract that we didn’t run short of anything to complete the contract. Had we run short, the only option would have been to use air-freight which would have been very costly. Once our team were over there, the remit was we didn’t come home until everything was finished, which was a six week programme. With additional works item and M&E delays we did end up with several journeys, but from our side this complicated project was completed within budget.
Derby City Hospital
We have worked at many hospitals including Derby, Shrewsbury, Mansfield, Walsall, Sheffield and Birmingham.
The Derby City Hospital was secured on a 5 year fixed price contract purely for dryling valued at £12 million to us. Once on site we started being awarded many extra work items, including an additional £500k of suspended ceiling works. Being a 5 year fixed price contracted, our tendering process consisted of four members of staff working full-time on the drawings, taking off quantities and highlighting any questionable details back to the Architect. This tendering process took six weeks, and resulted in us submitting 134 RFI’s (request for information) back to the Architect on details we considered needed further clarification. It was our thoroughness during this process which gave the Main Contractor the confidence to awarded us the contract.
Wickes Main Distribution Centre, Northampton
We went to the Wickes Main Distribution Centre in Northampton to carry out a 3-4 week contract. Eighteen months later we completed our work at Wickes. The Client just kept giving us more work! We re-fitted the canteen area, numerous toilet blocks with concealed panelling, suspended ceiling and partitioning work items adhoc across four other Wickes Distribution Centres in Northampton. One of the managers even asked if we could produce a blackboard based around their Wickes delivery vehicles – and we did this to scale and colour matched.
